Governor Jay Nixon is in Iraq with four other governors visiting troops in Baghdad. KSMU’s Jennifer Moore has details.
After meeting with injured troops at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C., the governor left Andrews Air Force Base for Baghdad Tuesday.
According to a release from the governor’s office, Nixon is in Iraq with the governors of Vermont, Massachusetts, Minnesota and South Dakota.
The purpose of the trip is to learn more about America’s role in Iraq, and to boost morale of Missouri troops stationed there.
Nixon is missing out on Missouri’s excessive humidity. But according to the forecasting site www.Weather.com, Baghdad experienced a sandstorm Wednesday, and will reach a high of 115 degrees Thursday…that’s without the heat index.
For KSMU News, I’m Jennifer Moore.
ANCHOR TAG:This is Nixon’s second trip to Iraq. Both trips were paid for by the US Department of Defense.
