Know a Person Worthy of the Humanitarian Award? Submit Their Name by Oct. 16

Morey Mechlin
Community Foundation of the Ozarks

Applications for the 2015 Humanitarian Award to honor a southwest Missouri resident are now being accepted.

The Humanitarian Award, founded by longtime Community Foundation of the Ozarks supporter Jewell Thompson Schweitzer, goes to a citizen that contributes to the betterment of his or her community. It is designed to recognize a living person; posthumous nominations are not accepted. This is the 26th year of the award.

As part of the criteria, a humanitarian is described as “an individual who has the courage to take decisive action, the wisdom to face aggressive challenges, and the willingness to sacrifice to affect these causes that have a long-term impact on the betterment of the community.”

Morey Mechlin, executive director for Care to Learn, was named the 2014 Humanitarian. The winner receives a $3,000 cash award, which he or she has traditionally donated to a favorite charity.

The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Nominations can be submitted online using this form or emailed or mailed to Suzette West with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce at: suzette@springfieldchamber.com; or Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, 2015 Humanitarian Award, P.O. Box 1687, Springfield, MO 65801.
