Eight People So Far Have Expressed Interest in Running for SPS Board

As of Wednesday, eight people had picked up petitions to try for a seat on the Springfield Board of Education.

Three members will be elected to the board on April 5^th of next year.  One seat will be for five years to complete the term created by the resignation of Francine Pratt and two seats will be for three-year terms.

The eight who have picked up petitions so far are:  Charles Taylor, Melissa Penkalski, Matthew Simpson, Allen Kunkel, Gerry Lee, Michelle Gavel, Alina Lehnert and Jeff Paul.

Nomination information and petitions can be picked up at the Kraft Administration Center, 1359 E. St. Louis.

Eligible candidates must submit petitions containing the signatures of at least 500 verifiable registered voters who live within the Springfield Public School District boundaries by January 19^th.  Potential candidates can start turning in petitions on December 15^th.
