Prominent forensic anthropologist, Dr. Douglas Owsley will speak in Springfield this weekend.  He'll give a talk tonight (4/1) at 7 in Carrington Hall, room 208, on the Missouri State University campus.  He'll also speak tomorrow night (4/2) at about 7:45 at the Ramada Oasis on N. Glenstone.  Michele Skalicky talks with Dr. Suzanne Walker, MSU professor and Dr. Neal Lopinot, director of the Center for Archaeological Research.

The program, “Stories of the West with Marideth Sisco and Bo Brown” will be held tonight (4/1) at 6:30 at the historic Fox Theatre on Park Central Square.  The musicians will perform songs and music of the American West and share stories.  The program is a Springfield-Greene County Library Big Read event.  To learn more, thelibrary.org

The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Springfield will host a Kiwanis Baseball Celebration to help fund baseball camps for the Boys and Girls Clubs tonight (4/1) at 5:30 at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.  Activities will include an honor wall and video of former Kiwanis baseball players, a live and silent auction and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

The Springfield Sister Cities Association will host the annual Cherry Blossom Kate and Pinata Festival tomorrow (4/2) from 11 am to 3 pm at Nathanael Greene-Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic in Springfield.  The event will include kite flying and decorating, origami, pinatas and other Japanese and Mexican crafts and games at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center.  Admission is $3, and kids 12 and under get in free.  Admission to the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden will be free tomorrow.  To learn more, peacethroughpeople.org
