Representative Long Named to House Subcommittees

Rep. Billy Long's Office

U.S. Rep. Billy Long has been named to three subcommittees by House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman, Fred Upton, for the 114th Congress that begins January 2015.

He’ll serve on the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, the Energy and Power Subcommittee and the Health Subcommittee, according to a news release from his office.

Long says, “the Energy and Commerce Committee will look to build on the committee’s record of success in the 114th Congress.”  He says he’s ready to help accomplish this goal with his new subcommittee assignments.

According to Long, the subcommittees cover a large majority of the full committee’s policy jurisdiction, and he looks forward to “having a hand in crafting major legislation beginning at the ground floor.”

The House Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over the nation’s telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, energy policy and interstate and foreign commerce.  The committee is responsible for reviewing the programs of the Departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Transportation; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Federal Trade Commission; the Food and Drug Administration; and the Federal Communications Commission.
