In this segment of Making Democracy Work, Lisa Langley talks with Springfield Municipal Court judge, Becky Borthwick, about Springfield's Homeless Court.
The Homeless Court is held the first Tuesday of each month at The Kitchen, Inc. and helps the homeless facing legal problems.
It originated out of a commission on poverty started by Springfield city manager, Greg Burris, and had its first session in January 2015.
Borthwick says Homeless Court is "completely different" from regular court. She says it feels more like a counseling session in a therapy group.
Steven Binder, who started the nation's Homeless Courts, will be in Springfield this week.
