IMAGES: Hands On for Seniors Assists Local Citizen

On Saturday, eight volunteers from the United Way of the Ozarks assisted a local senior citizen maintain her property as part of a program called Hands On for Seniors.

Hands On for Seniors matches seniors in need of home maintenance who are physically or financially unable to perform these tasks with community volunteers that can.

Nigel Holderby is the vice president of communication for United Way of the Ozarks.

"Living united is an action and these volunteers are proof that we are united everyday in Springfield," Holderby said.

Jackie Stites is a senior citizen living with severe arthritis.

They are just wonderful," Stites said. "If I had my life to live over again I would help the elderly."

The eight volunteers made external repairs, trimmed bushes and bagged more than 60 bags of leaves.
