Fall firearms turkey season and archery season are underway, and the Missouri Department of Conservation said hunters might have a challenging hunt.
According to MDC, this year's annual wild turkey brood survey shows statewide turkey production was below average. The statewide poult to hen ratio for this year was nine percent. That's 13 percent higher than last year's ratio but 25 percent lower than the previous five-year average. Turkey production was higher this year in northern Missouri than in the southern part of the state.
Firearms turkey season runs through October 31, and fall archery turkey hunting goes through November 9 and again from November 21 to January 15 during certain hours.
