Science: Here, There and Everywhere

Missouri State University

One would think that issues related to science are somehow unique from place to place within the world.  Instead, when talking with scientists from other environs,  one is struck by the commonality of the problems facing us.  Dr. PervezHoodhboy certainly has experienced the negative view of science that springs up from a wealth of influences within a country.

As a nuclear physicist in Pakistan, he has watched firsthand as certain areas of science have been elevated in stature based primarily on their impact on national reputation while other fields have been denigrated based on nothing more than preconceived notions.  Visiting MSU for the Public Affairs Conference, he stops by Stemspots to talk about science in his country, its impact and its role in changing the future for the better.

Dr. David Cornelison has been working as an educator and scientist in Arizona and Missouri universities for the last 32 years. From 2010-2018, he was the head of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University. His research interests lie at the intersection of experimental condensed-matter physics and astrophysics, while his educational efforts have focused on outreach to the K-12 school system. Most of all, he believes in curiosity-driven learning in the sciences and all other fields.
