In this segment of Making Democracy Work, Ilga Vise talks with Angie Filbeck, associate planner with DNR's Ozarks Headwaters Recycling and Materials Management District.

There are twenty such districts in the state, according to Filbeck.  The local district, which used to be called District O, has been around since the late 90s.  It encompasses Greene, Christian, Webster, Dallas and Polk Counties.

The districts support recycling programs and other projects to keep materials out of landfills.

Money to fund the districts comes from tipping fees haulers pay per ton when they drop trash off at the landfill.
