Cooling Centers, Pools Cater to Those Needing Relief From the Heat

The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect through Saturday.  Local cooling centers are operating for those needing some relief from the heat. KSMU's Matthew Barnes reports.

According to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, 67 cases of heat illness have been reported in the Springfield area since this heat wave rolled in.

Residents can enter the cooling centers for free. They are spread out across town at areas like:  the Mediacom Ice Park Lobby on East Trafficway, the YMCAs on Republic Road and Jefferson Avenue, The Salvation Army on West Chestnut Expressway, the American Red Cross on West Bypass, and the Commons of Ozarks Technical Community College.

The Springfield–Greene County Park Board is also extending its outdoor pool hours over the weekend with a $1 admission fee or one canned food item to donate to Ozarks Food Harvest.
