City of Eureka Springs

The 10th annual Voices from the Silent City will be held Friday and Saturday night (10/19-10/20) in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  The one-hour walking tours through the Eureka Springs Municipal Cemetery will feature actors in period costumes telling stories of their colorful pasts.  Proceeds benefit the Eureka Springs Historical Museum.  

The Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Library’s Fall Book Sale continues Friday (10/29) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday (10/20), which is Half Price Day, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday (10/21), which is $1 and $5 Bag Day, 1 to 5 p.m.   The sale is at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.  

The 52nd annual Maple Leaf Festival continues this weekend (10/19-10/21) in Carthage with a variety of activities including a parade Saturday morning (10/20) at 10, a car show, a pancake feed, a model train show, a tractor show, arts and crafts, Brats on the Square and much more. 

Missouri State University’s Folklore Club will host Campus Haunted Tours Friday and Saturday night (10/19-10/20) from 6 to 9.  Tickets are $4 for an individual or $10 for a group of three.  A guide will talk about legends and haunted spaces on campus. 

The Friends of the Christian County Library’s Fall Book Sale continues Friday (10/19) from noon to 5 and Saturday (10/20) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1005 N. 4th in Ozark. 

The fourth annual Red Shoe Gala to benefit Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks will start Friday night (10/19) at 6 at the White River Conference Center, 600 W. Sunshine in Springfield.  The evening will include entertainment by Broadway star, Tracy Thoms, and Star Search grand champion, Jake Simpson, along with dinner and activities.   

The Springfield-Greene County Library will host “Monsters of Trivia” at Missouri Spirits, 507 W. Walnut in Springfield, Friday night (10/19) at 7 for anyone 21 and older.  Those who want to attend are asked to put together teams of four to six members.  Registration is required. 

The Mystery Hour starts Friday night (10/19) at 7:30 at the Gillioz Theatre, 325 Park Central East in Springfield. 

The Moxie Cinema’s Staff Picks Series continues Friday night (10/19) at 8:30 and Saturday night (10/20) at 8 at 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield.  This weekend’s film is “Best in Show” from 2000. 

Harvest Fest continues weekends through October 28 at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park, 3825 W. Farm Rd. 146 in Springfield.  The event features hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a haunted trail, a corn maze and more. 

The Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center, 483 Hatchery Rd. in Branson will host “Halloween Happening: Not So Scary” Friday night (10/19) from 7 to 10.  Take a guided night hike with stations about Missouri wildlife.  Registration is required.   

Carla Atkinson, assistant professor at the University of Alabama, will present “Does Community Structure Dictate Stream Ecological Function?” Friday (10/19) at 4 p.m. in Temple Hall Room 3 on the Missouri State University campus. 

The Little Acorns program, “Going Batty,” for kids three to six-years-old, will start at 10 Friday morning (10/19) and 11:15 Saturday morning (10/20) at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Registration is required. 

“Creature Feature,” for ages two to six with an adult, will focus on eastern screech owls Friday and Saturday morning at 10:30 (10/19-10/20) at Dickerson Park Zoo.  Registration and a fee are required. 

The Christian County Library, 208 McCroskey in Nixa, invites families to Frankenstein’s Mad Science Trick or Treat Friday night (10/19) at 6.  It will be held at the Ozark branch, 1005 N. 4th, Saturday night (10/20) at 6. 

The Christian County Library, 4005 N. 4th in Ozark, will show the film, “Jurassic Park” Friday night (10/19) at 6:30.  It’s part of the Great American Read Film Festival.  Learn more here

Missouri State University will celebrate Homecoming this weekend.  The Band of Bears Homecoming Parade starts at 9 Saturday morning (10/20) and will go down John Q. Hammons Parkway.  Breakfast with Boomer is at 10 a.m. at Meyer Library where kids can have their photos taken with Boomer and take part in other activities.  Bearfest Village opens at 11 north of Plaster Stadium, and the MSU Bears will take on Western Illinois Saturday afternoon at 2. 

Missouri State University will present a Men’s and Women’s Basketball Sneak Preview Saturday morning (10/20) at 10 at Hammons Student Center.  You’ll be able to watch drills and demonstrations by this year’s teams.

MSU’s National Pan-Hellenic Council will host a Homecoming Step Show Competition Saturday night (10/20) at Plaster Student Union Theater.  Doors open at 6.  Admission will be charged. 

The Missouri Baptist Children’s Home will host the 4Miles 4Kids Race Saturday morning (10/20) at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park, 3825 W. Farm Rd. 146 in Springfield.  There will be a four mile, a 10K and a 15K race along with a family fun run/walk. 

The 2018 Springfield Rock, Gem & Mineral Show will be held Saturday (10/20) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday (10/21) from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Springfield Expo Center, 635 E. St. Louis. 

The Rotary Route 66 5K and Fun Run will be held Saturday morning (10/20) at 9 at the Mills Center, 620 Mills Dr. in Lebanon. 

VFW Post 3404, 1136 E. Atlantic, will hold a flag retirement ceremony with help from local boy scouts in the post’s parking lot Saturday (10/20) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Anyone is invited to take a flag for retirement. 

A yoga class for adults will start Saturday afternoon (10/20) at 2 at the Library Station.  Take a mat or towel. 

The Franken-Pumpkin Party will be held Saturday (10/20) at 1 at the Christian County Library Nixa branch, 208 McCroskey.  Adults are invited to paint pumpkins in the style of Frankenstein’s monster face to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”  Ages 12 to 17 are allowed with an adult. 

Night at the Haunted Library will start Saturday night (10/20) at 7 at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library.  The evening will include fun and games, with creepy mazes, a spooky scavenger hunt, scary stories, cupcakes, punch and prizes. 

The Missouri Federation of Square ‘n Round Dancing Club’s 59th State Festival continues through Sunday (10/21) at the Cowan Civic Center in Lebanon. 

The Springfield Conservation TEENS, for kids 12 to 17-years-old, will learn archery and spend time practicing Saturday (10/20) at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Registration is required.  Learn more here

MSU’s Darr College of Agriculture will host a Shiitake Mushroom Workshop Saturday (10/20) starting at 9 a.m. at the Darr Agricultural Center.  The cost is $20. 

Wild West Days is Saturday (10/20) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Fordland with a costume contest, vendors, games, live music and more. 

The program, “Archaeological Investigations,” will be held Saturday and Sunday (10/20-10/21) at 1 at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, MO.  Learn about archaeological investigations at the park, and view artifacts. 

Hoot Hoot Halloween will be held Saturday (10/20) starting at 1 p.m. at Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon.  The day will feature a variety of programs and activities, including a hike to meet animals and historical people of Bennett at 5:30 and an outdoor Halloween Movie Night at 8. 

The program, “Lanterns and Luminaries,” will be held Saturday night (10/20) from 6:30 to 8 at the Nathan Boone Homestead in Ash Grove.  See the Boone home by candlelight, and explore Missouri’s frontier history through a variety of hands-on activities. 

“Castle Day” is Saturday (10/20) from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Camdenton.  The event will include crafts for kids, demonstrations related to life in the Ozarks, a Ha Ha Tonka photo walk and castle history programs. 

Moxie Mornings starts Saturday morning (10/20) at 10 at the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield.  Kids two to six-years-old will watch an innovative short film and take part in hands-on art making.  Admission is free. 

The Our Town Fall Festival is Saturday (10/20) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Willard Intermediate School, 407 Farmer Rd. in Willard.  There will be traditional fall foods, activities, crafts and a ping pong ball drop for prizes. 

Celebrate Ozark’s 130th anniversary at a Block Party Saturday (10/20) from 4 to 7 p.m. on the square in Ozark.  There will be food, music, kids’ activities and more. 

The Pets and Pumpkins Family Festival is Saturday (10/20) from noon to 5 p.m. on Park Central Square in Springfield. 

Country singer, Jake Owen, along with David Lee Murphy and Morgan Wallen, will bring the “Life’s Watcha Make it” tour to JQH Arena Saturday night (10/20) at 7. 

Ozarks Bacon Fest is Saturday (10/20) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds for anyone 21 and older.  Sample bacon inspired appetizers from area restaurants as well as craft beers and spirits. 

A 3-D Printing Parent/Child Workshop will be held Saturday (10/20) from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Discovery Center.  Registration and a fee are required.

TheDragonfest Renaissance Faire will be held Saturday (10/20) from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Springfield Riding Club facility, 5964 S. State Highway NN in Rogersville.  The event raises money for Infinity Academy, a school for kids with learning disabilities. 

The fifth annual Ozark Mountain Highland Games will be held Saturday (10/20) at American Legion Post 639, 2660 S. Scenic in Springfield.  Stop by and watch or join in the fun. 

The 2017 film, “Saving Brinton,” will be shown Saturday afternoon (10/20) at 2:30 at the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield.  There will be a post-show Q & A with the directors of the film.  Learn more here

The fourth annual Farmer’s Park Art Show will be held Saturday (10/20) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday (10/21) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Farmers Park, 2144 E. Republic Rd. in Springfield.  It will feature 22 artists from several states.

The MSU Chorale will present a free concert Sunday night (10/21) at 5:30 in Ellis Recital Hall. 

The Sounds of Autumn Concert Series continues Sunday afternoon (10/21) at 2 at the Peace through People Pavilion at Nathanael Greene-Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic in Springfield.  This weekend’s performer is Shaun Munday.  Take lawn chairs or blankets for the free performance. 

Sunday Make and Play will be held Sunday afternoon (10/21) from 2 to 4 at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library.  Drop in for a hand-on, interactive experience with a maker, play and art focus.
