C.A.R.E.

C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue will host “Find Your Soul Mutt” Friday night (2/8) from 6 to 8 at White River Brewing Company, 505 W. Commercial in Springfield.  It’s a speed dating event—but with dogs.  The event will include refreshments and live music by Louie Michael. 

The 2019 Chinese New Year Banquet and Show will be held Friday night (2/8) from 5:30 to 8:30 in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom at Missouri State University.  The event includes authentic Chinese dishes and a show presented by MSU Chinese students.  General admission is $15, and tickets are required.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will host the Ultimate Springfield Cave Tour Saturday (2/9), and registration is due Friday (2/8).  The event is a day of caving in the Springfield area, including at Ritter Springs, Giboney Cave, and a boat tour at Sequiota Cave. The cost is $15 per person. 

The Little Acorns program, “Slippery Salamanders,” for kids three to six-years-old, will be held Friday morning (2/8) at 10:30 at Walter Woods Conservation Area, 5265 Eland Rd. in Joplin.  Registration is required. 

Springfield Little Theatre presents“Lily Plants a Garden” Friday night and Saturday night (2/8-2/9) at 7 and Sunday (2/10) at 2 at the SLT Education Building, 237 S. Florence. 

The Air Force Band of Mid-America will present a concert Friday night (2/8) at 7:30 at the Thomas E. Taylor Performing Arts Center at MSSU in Joplin.  Admission is free, but tickets are required. 

Springfield Ballet will host a Daddy Daughter Dance Friday night (2/8) at 6:30 at Hotel Vandivort.  Tickets include a three-course meal, a corsage and a boutonniere. 

The Missouri State University women’s tennis team will host Western Illinois University Friday (2/8) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Creighton from 7 to 10 p.m. at Cooper Tennis Complex.  Learn more here

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center will host “Owl Prowl” Friday night (2/8) from 7 to 9.  The event includes a program to learn about owls, with live owls by Dickerson Park Zoo, and a hike outside to listen for the nocturnal birds.  Registration is required. 

The Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center, 483 Hatchery Rd. in Branson, will host“Owl Prowl” Friday night (2/8) from 7 to 9 with a program about owls as well as an outdoor hike.  Registration is required. 

The 29th annual Composition Festival Concert II will be held Friday night (2/8) at 7:30 in Ellis Recital Hall on the Missouri State campus.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center will host a hike for women at Busiek State Forest Saturday (2/9).  The hike is nearly six miles long, and registration is required. 

Foster Adopt Connect will host the Tall and Small BallSaturday (2/9) from 4 to 6 p.m. The family dance party will be held at the Discovery Center, 438 E. St. Louis.  The cost is $40 for the whole family. 

Arc of the Ozarks will host the 10th annual Hunt and Fish Outdoor Show Saturday (2/9) and Sunday (2/10) at the Springfield Expo Center.  Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the door.  Watch demonstrations and shop local and national vendors. 

The Springfield Symphony will present “Will You Be My Valentine?” Saturday night (2/9) at 7:30 at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing arts.  Vocalist Steve Lippia will perform some of Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits. 

The Drury University women’s basketball team will host the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon (2/9) at 1 at O’Reilly Family Event Center.  Learn more here

The program, “Mammals in Winter,” for kids five and older, will be held Saturday morning (2/9) at 11 at Walter Woods Conservation Area, 5265 Eland Rd. in Joplin.  Registration is required. 

The Second Saturday Art Walk is Saturday (2/9) from 1 to 5 at venues in downtown Springfield. 

Early Childhood One Stop and the Springfield-Greene County Library will present the program, “Conscious Parenting: From Chaos to Calm,” for adults Saturday morning (2/9) at 10 at the Library Center. 

The annual Taste of N’Awlins will be held Saturday (2/9) from 1 to 3 at the Grand Central Hotel and Taverne in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Admission is $8.  The event will include beignets and café au lait, gumbo shooters, a cash bar and live music by a jazz trio. 

The 27th annual “It’s a Gas!” swap meet will be held Saturday (2/9) from 8 a.m. to noon at Cowan Civic Center, 500 E. Elm in Lebanon.  It will feature gas and oil-related collectibles and petrolania.   

The Wonders of the Night Sky astronomy program will be held Saturday night (2/9) from 6:30 to 8:30 at the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond. 

Adults are invited to stop by the Park Central Library Saturday (2/9) at 2 p.m. to make old-timey valentines.  Find out more here

The Nixa Education Foundation presents “The Not So Newlywed Murders,” a murder mystery dinner and show, Saturday night (2/9) at 5:30 at Greenhouse Two Rivers, 1122 Two Rivers Rd. in Highlandville. 

Kids in grades one through six are invited to the Library Station Saturday (2/9) from 2 to 4 p.m. for STEAM Train.  The event will feature science experiments involving chocolate.

A Vinyl Record and CD Swap will be held Sunday (2/10) from 2 to 4 for adults at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library. 

A temporary exhibit is now open at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield.  It commemorates the role of Irish-Americans in the Civil War.  “Sons of Erin” is at the battlefield through June 30.
