A veterans’ volunteer group will team up with Crosslines on Saturday, June 29 to feed hungry individuals and families in central Springfield.
According to Council of Churches of the Ozarks, the organization’s Crosslines program and a veteran-run organization called Guardians Brotherhood, Inc. will prepare chicken and fries Saturday for up to 400 people.
Michael Murrell is the president of Guardians Brotherhood, Inc. He says he founded the nonprofit with other veterans who wanted to continue to serve their communities.
He also says partnering with the Council of Churches gives his group more opportunities to do that.
“Working through faith-based organizations helps us identify families and people that are in need in various communities, and puts us in touch with other faith-based organizations in other communities,” Murrell said.
That food will be available Saturday to anyone who shows up, and organizers say they’ll serve the food until it’s gone. The event begins at noon and is scheduled to run through 3:00 PM. Jenny Lincoln Park is located at 300 E. Harrison Street in Springfield.
