Two Springfield Hospitals Report Increase In COVID-19 Patients

The leaders of two Springfield healthcare systems are reporting increases in COVID-19 patients.

Mercy Springfield CAO, Erik Frederick, said Monday on Twitter there were 38 positive at Mercy and seven more were awaiting test results.  He said, “Our potential summer surge is proving to be true.”

CoxHealth president and CEO Steve Edwards said on Twitter Tuesday the hospital’s COVID-19 census was 48.  That included two teenagers.  He called those who aren’t vaccinated “sitting ducks.”

The Indian variant of COVID-19 has been detected in Greene County.
