STEM Spots - What We've Learned and What's to Come

Submitted Photo

Well, our new show is now twelve weeks old and boy, have we learned a lot.The most important thing is how much work it is to put on a show- and Mickey Rooney made it look so easy. So, we do not have a webcast this week, but as the radio show stated we have a lot of interesting guests coming in the future.

A sample of those forthcoming shows are: Meleah Spencer is the Executive Director of the Discovery Center and she will talk about their important efforts. Jorge Rebaza-Vasquez is a mathematician from Missouri State University who will chat with us about mathematics as a tool in understanding data. Roy Cantrell is a plant scientist with Monsanto who will discuss the current state of crop science in the United States.

Shane Greenstein is an economist at Harvard University who will talk about his book on the commercialization of the internet. William Harrison, a professor at the University of Missouri, is an expert in computer security. He will talk with us on issues surrounding security in applications related to national interests.

We are also interested in anything of interest to you, so please contact us through the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University and let us know your thoughts and ideas at DavidCornelison@MissouriState.edu.

Dr. David Cornelison has been working as an educator and scientist in Arizona and Missouri universities for the last 32 years. From 2010-2018, he was the head of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University. His research interests lie at the intersection of experimental condensed-matter physics and astrophysics, while his educational efforts have focused on outreach to the K-12 school system. Most of all, he believes in curiosity-driven learning in the sciences and all other fields.
