SPS Names Head of Special Programs, Athletic Director

Springfield Public Schools

Springfield Public Schools has named new officials to lead its special programs and athletics departments.

This past week the district announced it has hired Phyllis Wolfram to serve as executive director of special programs and Randy Stange to the athletic director’s role.

Wolfram will oversee SPS special services, gifted education, federal programs, early childhood, compliance and English Language Learner services. Her annual salary will be $126,861.

She is returning Springfield after working as executive director of special services in the Ozark School District as for the past eight years. According to a news release, Wolfram previously worked for the SPS special education department from 1993 to 2007, and later director of special and compensatory programs.

Randy Stange

Randy Stange served as assistant basketball coach at Missouri State University from 1987 to 1992. He has led the athletic program at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas for the past 18 years. The district says at Hutchinson he oversees 40 employees and more than 300 athletes, as well as the student athletic training staff, cheerleading program and dance team. Stange also leads athletic department fundraising efforts.

He will be paid $110,439 annually.

Employment for both Wolfram and Stange is contingent upon school board approval. A recommendation to hire them will be brought before the school board at its March 3 meeting. Following board approval, they will start work July 1.
