Schools in the Springfield Public Schools District will have staggered start times this fall. That’s to accommodate expanded transportation options for 3000 more high school students, according to SPS. Buses will also be provided for the first time to choice magnet programs.
All high schools, some elementary schools, three early childhood programs and one magnet program will go from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; several elementary schools, some magnet schools and an early childhood center will start at 8:30 and go till 3:30; and middle schools and some K-8 schools as well as two choice programs will go from 9:30 to 4:30.
The district also announced what it’s calling a major expansion of before and after school support services for students. A new program called SHINE, a collaboration of SPS, Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield, the Dream Center, SPARC and the YMCA will offer expanded before and after school support al all school sites starting August 23rd.
