Springfield City Council Meets Tonight

City of Springfield

Springfield City Council could vote tonight on a measure that would allow urban deer hunting in the city with bows and arrows under limited circumstances.  According to City of Springfield spokesperson Cora Scott, limitations would restrict hunting within the city limits to two-acre tracts. Hunting would have to be done from an elevated position of ten feet, and hunters would have to get permission from the property owner.  They also would be required to take an approved training course.

Council could decide tonight whether or not to allow the issuance of a conditional use permit to reduce the front yard setback from 25 feet to 15 feet at 1235 to 1249 E. Cherry and, along with that, a special ordinance adopting the East Cherry Flats Redevelopment Plan and Blight Report for that area.  RJK Properties LLC wants to build an apartment building there for MO State University students.  Some Rountree residents have voiced their opposition.

Council also will vote on a new contract for Springfield firefighters, which allows collective bargaining.

Members could also vote on a resolution declaring an economic and housing access calamity for the city in order to allow qualifying individuals, agencies and churches to provide food and lodging to the working poor and unemployed who are without a permanent residence or dwelling.

Council might also decide a bill prohibiting roadside sales of animals.

Springfield City Council meets tonight at 6:30 in Council Chambers in Historic City Hall.
