Springfield City Council will consider making masks mandatory in public places at their meeting Monday night. According to city officials, the requirement would be part of a proposed Phase 4 of the city’s Road to Recovery Order. The current phase goes through July 15.
Springfield-Greene County Health Department assistant director, Katie Towns, told council that public health staff are actively monitoring 395 people in quarantine. They are close contacts of people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, 408 people had been diagnosed with the illness in Greene County. Of those cases, 157 were active.
City officials say hospitalizations are increasing. Twenty-eight people were hospitalized in Greene County due to COVID-19 as of Tuesday. Six COVID-19 patients were in ICU’s in the county.
