The nonprofit Kitchen Inc. continues is push of more affordable housing and solutions for Springfield’s homeless population with a groundbreaking this week.

McClernon Villas will provide an additional 36 permanent units to income-qualified seniors and disabled individuals, including six for formerly homeless veterans and their families. These two-bedroom apartments on Springfield’s north side will also include a community center.

A ceremony is planning for Friday morning at 10 am at 1320 E. McClernon St.

The event comes just two weeks after officials cut the ribbon on the recently completed Beacon Village 2. That affordable permanent housing complex is now serving the needs of low income and formerly homeless people and their families in its 70 plus units.
