The Springfield-Greene County Library District has approved a budget of just over $20 million for the next fiscal year.
The Board of Trustees allocated $8.4 million of the budget for personnel and $2.35 million for books, e-books, DVDs and other lending materials. The new budget goes into effect on July 1.
The total budget figure represents a slight increase from the previous year, and will cover operation and staffing at the district’s 10 branches, Mobile Library bookmobile and nine service vehicles. In the next budget year, officials have projected a 2.5 percent increase in tax revenue. Additionally, money will come from state aid, library fines and fees, grants and gifts.
The library says Greene County property taxes account for 88 percent of its budget.
Major anticipated expenses within the library district for fiscal year 2014-2015, according to officials, will include replacement of water lines, new south steps and stained glass repairs at the Midtown Carnegie Branch.
