Minorities in Business Works to Increase Minority and Women-Owned Businesses in SW MO

missouristate.edu

The local Minorities in Business (MIB) group serves as a great advocate for increasing minority and women owned businesses in our community.  Leslie Carrier talks with Wes Pratt, Interim President, who explains how MIB works with the Chamber of Commerce, City of Springfield, and Greene County to identify and increase business development opportunities for minorities and women.  One such example is developing guidelines to increase diversity in awarding contracting and purchasing jobs.

Pratt emphasizes the importance of the MIB to provide networking and business support to its members. The current membership includes representation from the fields of architecture, restaurants, fashion, insurance and more. The annual Heritage Awards, held each February, give recognition to an individual in the community who has been a great advocate or has played a role in strengthening business opportunities for minorities.
