The number of people hospitalized in Springfield with COVID-19 continues to increase. There were 200 people in Greene County hospitals as of Monday morning, according to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department’s Dashboard. That's the most at one time since the pandemic began.
Forty-three of those hospitalized in the county were in the ICU, and 78 were Greene County residents.
CoxHealth president and CEO Steve Edwards said on Twitter Monday morning that his healthcare system had 133 COVID-19 inpatients, and 107 of those were in Springfield. He said the predictive metric forecast shows that number could be as high as 180 to 200 in the next two weeks.
Overall cases continue to climb in Greene County. As of Monday morning, there had been a total of 12,672 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, and 4,823 were active cases.
And two more Greene County residents were added to the COVID-19 death count. Twenty-four residents had died in November of the illness, and there had been a total of 178 deaths.
There has been a 19 percent change in reported COVID-19 cases in the last seven days.
