Two weeks remain for southwest Missouri citizens affected by recent flooding to register for federal assistance.
According to William Lindsey, a media relations specialist for FEMA, the Disaster Recovery Center at the Springfield Library Center has provided assistance to a multitude of residents in Greene and surrounding counties.
“Right now, I can speak to the overall numbers as far as the 33 declared counties. We have had 2,086 applications approved for $11.2 million.”
Open since mid-February, the Disaster Recovery Center offers assistance to those affected by flooding between Dec. 23 and Jan. 9. The registration deadline is March 21 at midnight.
“At this time we know there are still folks out there who have a need for resources, and there may be a lot of unmet needs. So, we need you to plug in with us and let us know what those needs are.”
The center is open from 9 am to 8 pm through Wednesday. Beginning Thursday, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the same location, with hours of operation from 9 am to 6 pm until further notice.
