Applications Are Open For 2021 Citizens Police Academy In Springfield

City of Springfield

A Springfield Police Department program gives citizens a behind-the-scenes look at SPD practices and policies.  And applications are now open for the fall 2021 Citizens Police Academy.

Those who are selected complete 30 hours of instruction over 10 weeks and meet every Thursday during that time.  Participants learn about a variety of topics, according to SPD, including police policies, organizational structure, investigative processes and policing tactics.

“The goal of the academy is to give citizens a better understanding of how the police department functions and what challenges officers face when working to serve the community,” according to a news release.

The next academy starts Thursday, August 5th.  The deadline to apply is June 5.
