You’ll now be able to drink alcoholic beverages in nine Springfield-Greene County Park Board facilities.

Springfield City Council Monday approved an amendment in city code removing the restriction of alcohol in public parks.  Alcohol is still prohibited in 95 parks locations after the Springfield-Greene County Park Board approved a new park regulation prior to City Council’s vote.

The Park Board continues to prohibit alcohol at youth sports events, family-themed events, neighborhood parks, playgrounds, pools and most picnic pavilions.

Alcohol will be allowed, with some restrictions, at Rivercut, Horton Smith and Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Courses, Mediacom Ice Park, Cooper Tennis Complex, and Dickerson Park Zoo during after-hours events.  Alcohol will also be allowed at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center and Gardens, Lake Springfield Boathouse and the Davis House and property only during special events and private rentals.

Alcohol sales are expected to begin at the golf courses in April and at Cooper Tennis Complex in September.
