2015 Performance Review for Springfield Public Schools Jumps 5 Percent

DESE

Springfield Public Schools is reporting a five percent increase in its Annual Performance Report issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

SPS says overall the district earned 90.4 percent of the maximum number of points possible on APR.

The primary goal of Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP), the state's accountability system for school districts, is to ensure all students are prepared for success in college and/or careers.

The Annual Performance Report score is based on five performance standards; academic achievement, attendance, college and career readiness, graduation rate and subgroup achievement. The calculation for 2015 varies from previous years due to changes in assessments, with this year’s figures representing the first time Missouri students were tested on new standards for English language arts and math. It was also the first time students used computers to take the exams.

SPS earned 100 percent for graduation rate and in the areas of English language arts and social studies, and 92.9 and 93.3 percent for academic achievement and college and career readiness, respectively.

Superintendent John Jungmann said in a statement, “While we showed some growth in areas of academic achievement, we are not where our students need us to be. These results reinforce the importance of our efforts to provide an engaging, relevant and personal learning experience for every learner, every day.”

Nixa Public Schools earned an overall APR of 98.9 percent in 2015, compared to 96.8 last year.  The Ozark School District also improved its APR by .4 percent to 98.6. Branson jumped more than 1.5 percent from the previous year for 96.1 overall.

Elsewhere in the region, Joplin’s overall APR for 2015 is 86.8, a nearly two percent bump from a year ago, while overall figures for Bolivar shot up 3.5 percent to 97.1.
