What is Fake News?

Drury University

Fake news is a term that has been used so much in recent months that it has become almost useless. But what is fake news? This week on Making Democracy Work host Lisa Langley speaks with Dr. Jonathan Groves to find out.

Dr. Groves is an Associate Professor of Communication at Drury University and is the Communication Department Chair. Dr. Groves spent 14 years working as a professional journalist for various newspapers before joining the faculty of Drury University. He also spent two years at the University of Missouri Columbia as a Reynolds Journalism Institute Doctoral fellow studying how the internet has changed the face of journalism.

Listen in as they discuss what fake news is and how to decipher what is being presented to the public.
