Nixa Councilman Jay Farr to Resign at Year's End

Jay Farr
City of Nixa

A Nixa City Council member is no longer eligible to serve after his family purchased a home outside city limits.

District 1 Councilman Jay Farr has submitted his resignation, which is effective December 31.

In a news release, the city says council will appoint someone to fill Farr’s vacancy until April 2016 when a special election will be held. The candidate selected will fulfill the remaining two years of the term.

Mayor Brian Steele requests that interested residents of District 1 submit a letter of interest to City Clerk Cindy Robbins by January 12. Robbins will verify eligibility, and Council will select an applicant to serve until April 2016. That applicant will be sworn in on January 19.

“I have enjoyed my experience on council, albeit shorter than expected,” Farr said in a statement. “I am taking away a better understanding of how the city functions and a deep appreciation for all of the people that are committed to its prosperity.”

Farr, a Nixa businessman, was elected to the city council in April 2015. He plans to continue to operate his business and stay involved with the city.

Anyone wishing to run for the remainder of Farr’s term or any other open seats in the April election need to sign up between Dec. 15 and Jan. 19 at City Hall. Other seats up for election in April include the remaining year of former District 1 Council Member Kyle Vogel’s seat that is currently being filled by Andy Ellis, District 2 Council Member Aron Peterson’s seat (3-year term), and District 3 Council Member Darlene Graham’s seat (3-year term).
