Nixon calls for $7 Million in Repairs at MSSU, Crowder College

Governor's office

Gov. Jay Nixon is continuing his push to rally support for a bond issuance to improve facilities at the state’s colleges and universities.

Speaking in Joplin today, Nixon said long-overdue investments in higher education would lead to more than $7 million in repairs and renovations at MSSU as well as facilities at Crowder College in Neosho and Nevada.

Missouri Sothern’s Reynolds Hall, which houses the schools biology, environmental health, physical sciences and mathematics programs, is in line for $5.2 million to help renovate classroom space and science labs. The facility’s first floor is showing evidence of disrepair after 47 years of use. Completed in 1967, Reynolds Hall was identified by MSSU as its top priority for repair and renovation.

At Crowder College, nearly $2 million will help renovate facilities in Neosho and Nevada, including classrooms, administrative offices and lab space.

Nixon is calling on lawmakers to pass a bipartisan bonding proposal when the legislature convenes in January.

Last month, Nixon visited Missouri State University in Springfield to outline plans for $19 million in improvements in campus facilities as part of the proposed bond issuance.
