The Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, Steven Tilley, has resigned. KSMU’s Jennifer Davidson has details.
Tilley’s surprise announcement came in the form of a letter he sent to colleagues in the House. In that letter, Tilley wrote that he was stepping down because he “did not want to be a paid consultant while serving as the Speaker of the House.”
The optometrist from Perryville said he will be consulting on public policy and campaigns. He also cited a desire to spend more time with his daughters.
In addition to resigning the office of Speaker, Tilley is also resigning as a member of the House of Representatives completely, five months before his term was set to expire.
For KSMU News, I’m Jennifer Davidson.
