Safety and Justice Roundtable Recommends 1/4-Cent Sales Tax
The Safety and Justice Roundtable is recommending a 1/4-cent Law Enforcement Sales Tax on this November’s ballot. KSMU’s Justin Lux reports.
The Roundtable met to review a list of priorities that outlined needs within the community’s public safety and criminal justice system.
One of the common themes Monday was the constant overcrowding in the Greene County Jail. The jail opened in 2001 with a capacity of 480, but usually houses close to 600 inmates.
The ¼-cent ales tax proposal was decided upon in front of the County Commission. The Commission actually will decide by August 30 whether to put the proposal on the November 8thGeneral Election.
