Even though the election is more than a year away, some people already are announcing plans to run for the state legislature. KSMU's Katie Easley reports.

Evangel University professor Bob Cirtin recently announced he’ll run for Bob Dixon’s seat in the Missouri House of Representatives next year as a republican candidate. The district covers part of Springfield. Cirtin says this is his first time running for any political office, but he has served on different boards and commissions at the local and state levels.

“The idea behind those boards is to make the community a better place to live, I like making that kind of contribution. So I think running for the state representative positions for the 140th district may be just another step,” says Cirtin.

Cirtin is also a local businessman, and former police officer.
