Professor Speaks on John McCain's Visit to Springfield
Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain visited Springfield and spoke at a town hall meeting at Missouri State University on Wednesday. KSMU's Alvin Chen spoke with one expert in politics on his view on McCain's visit.
Senator John McCain was campaigning in a historically Republican area today. Southwest Missouri is more conservative than other corners of the state.
Dr. George Conner, the acting Head of Department of Political Science, says Senator McCain's visit to Springfield shows how important this area is to the presidential election.
He says even though American people are ready for a change, he still doesn't think the majority of people here would vote for a Democrat.
Dr. Conner also says Missouri has always voted for the winning president, except in 1956. This explains why Missouri in general is a popular campaign stop for presidential candidates.
