Governor Matt Blunt announced today his recommendation that state funds pay for training 7 staff members at the new crime lab that's being set up in Springfield.

When the statewide crime lab opens in Springfield, it will process evidence in criminal cases—things like DNA samples. The lab is expected to increase the state's forensic analysis capacity by 30 percent. Blunt says it will speed up criminal cases.

The crime lab is slated to open next fall. Missouri lawmakers will have to approve Blunt's recommendation for these funds.
