Missouri State Treasurer Race

http://ozarkspub.vo.llnwd.net/o37/KSMU/audio/mp3/missourist_2064.mp3

Because Nancy Farmer is running for U-S Senate, she's preparing to give up her job as Missouri State Treasurer.

KSMU's Katie Hummel brings you information on the two candidates competing for that seat: Missouri Republican Senator Sara Steelman and Democrat Mark Powell, who is the Mayor of Arnold, Missouri.

DEMOCRAT MARK POWELL AND MISSOURI REPUBLICAN SENATOR SARA STEELMAN HAVE SIMILAR VIEWS ABOUT THE ROLE OF STATE TRESAURER IN MISSOURI.

BUT THAT'S WHERE THE SIMILARITIES END.

THE TWO HAVE THEIR OWN IDEAS ABOUT THE MANAGEMENT OF MISSOURI'S MONEY, AND BOTH CANDIDATES SAY THEY WANT MISSOURIANS TO NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE.

SENATOR STEELMAN SAYS HER VISION HAS NO ROOM FOR POLITICS.

AND AS FOR MARK POWELL'S VISION, HE SAYS HE FEELS A GOOD PART OF THE BUDGET SHOULD BE CONCENTRATED ON EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

ANOTHER BIG COMPONENT FOR BOTH CANDIDATES IS THE INVESTMENT OF THE STATE'S MONEY.

STEELMAN SAYS SHE BELIEVES MISSOURI'S MONEY NEEDS TO STAY IN MISSOURI.

AND WHILE POWELL ALSO SUPPORTS THIS, HE SAYS HE FEELS THERE ARE OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER FIRST BEFORE INVESTING IN MISSOURI BANKS.

WHILE BOTH CANDIDATES SAY THEY'VE THOUGHT OUT THE ISSUES AND HAVE SET THEIR AGENDAS FOR THIS RACE, BOTH SAY THEY DON'T FEEL THE RACE IS GETTING THE ATTENTION IT SHOULD.

REPUBLICAN SENATOR SARA STEELMAN AND DEMOCRAT MARK POWELL SAY THEY HOPE VOTERS WILL TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN ABOUT THEM AND THE ISSUES THEIR FOCUSING ON IN THEIR CAMPAIGNS, EVEN IF THIS RACE ISN'T GETTING AS MUCH MEDIA ATTENTION AS OTHER RACES.
