Candidates begin filing today for the August primary. As KSMU's Missy Shelton reports, the focus was on the democrats running for govenror.
TWO SUPPORTERS OF CLAIRE MC-CASKILL WERE OUTSIDE THE SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE TUESDAY MORNING...THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO ASK THE INCUMBENT GOVENROR DEMOCRAT BOB HOLDEN NOT TO RUN FOR OFFICE. GARY WELLS, A ST LOUIS BUSINESSMAN EXPLAINS WHY HE WANTS THE GOVERNOR TO STEP ASIDE. BUT WELLS DIDN'T GET TO ASK TYEH GOVERNOR TO STEP ASIDE SINCE THE GOVERNOR WAITED UNTIL TUESDAY AFTERNOON TO FILE HIS CANDIDACY PAPERS...WELLS WAS GONE BY THEN. CLAIRE MC-CASKILL SAYS WELLS IS NOT PART OF HER OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN AND SHE SAYS SHE DOESN'T APPROVE OF WHAT HE'S DOING. NOW THAT STATE AUDITOR MC-CASKILL HAS MADE HER PLANS TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR OFFICIAL, SHE SAYS SHE'S FOCUSED ON DEBATING BOB HOLDEN. THE GOVENROR SAYS HE'S INTERESTED IN DEBATING MC-CASKILL. AND AS FOR THE ARGUMENT THAT THE PRIMARY RACE COULD SPLIT AND WEAKEN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY GOING INTO THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS, BOB HOLDEN SAYS HE DOESN'T EXPECT THAT TO HAPPEN. SECRETARY OF STATE MATT BLUNT, A REPUBLICAN ALSO FILED TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR TUESDAY. THREE OTHER CANDIDATES ALSO FILED TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY. AND ONE CANDIDATE HAS FILED TO RUN FOR THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY.
