Work on improvements along Central Street resumed on Monday, continuing Springfield’s work towards the Complete Streets Policy.

The Complete Streets Policy was adopted by Springfield in 2014 with the goal of accommodating all forms of transportation on Springfield’s streets, thereby making travel safer.

The beginning of phase two improvements on Central Street will provide a system for all modes of transportation including pedestrians and bicyclists. This includes intersection and signal improvements, stormwater infrastructure and a small rain garden at Central and Clay.

The phase two improvements will focus on the stretch between Benton Avenue and Clay Avenue.

Public Works project manager Nick Edelman said the improvements will make it safer for people to travel to Central Street locations such as Drury University, Ozarks Technical Community College and Central High School.
