Nixa residents may now keep chickens in their backyards.

Nixa City Council voted this week to allow the practice with some restrictions.  Residents may have up to six chickens on a residential property.  They must be kept in an enclosure that’s enclosed on the top and all sides and that’s at least 25 feet from any adjacent homes, churches, schools or places of business.

Those who live in subdivisions with Home Owner Associations inside the city may still not be allowed to keep urban chickens due to HOA restrictions.

You can view the new ordinance at Nixa.com.
