Acting Springfield-Greene County Health Department Director Takes To Twitter As COVID-19 Cases Rise

CDC

The acting director of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department is imploring people to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

On Saturday, Katie Towns wrote that she’s "watching this delta variant break us."

The delta variant, which was first identified in India, is believed to be more easily transmissible and may be associated with more severe disease.

As hospitalizations from COVID-19 increase, Towns said "our healthcare workers keep showing up and taking care of those who aren’t vaccinated anyway.  Even though they’re exhausted overwhelmed and grieving too."

She said the vaccine is safe and widely available.
