The City of Joplin continues to seek public opinion on the future of Memorial Hall.
The building has hosted concerts, plays, sporting events and community programs for nearly 100 years. But several concert venues have opened in recent years, and the city is deciding what purpose Memorial Hall will serve in the future.
The building, at 212 W. 8th Street in Joplin, opened in 1925 and was built to honor the veterans of World War One.
City officials hired an architect to perform a study about the future possible uses of Memorial Hall. But they want to hear from citizens. A survey is available at joplinmo.org through October 19. Public meetings are also being held.
According to a news release from the City of Joplin, “Memorial for our war veterans will continue to be in our community. We recognize this as a significant historical monument to honor our war veterans for their service.”
