All of the results are in from direct contacts of COVID-19 positive hair stylists at Great Clips who chose to be tested. The direct contacts were clients of two hair stylists who had tested positive for COVID-19 and who had worked at the S. Glenstone hair salon while symptomatic.
Springfield-Greene County Health Department director, Clay Goddard, told Springfield City Council Monday that 45 of 140 direct contacts took the department up on an offer to be tested. He said all of those people tested negative for COVID-19.
The stylists and their clients all wore masks.
"So, that would lead me to have better evidence that certainly masking, especially from both parties, had a mitigating effect on disease spread," said Goddard.
Public health employees will continue to look more closely at the situation, he said, including the types of masks worn and how long the clients were with the hair stylists. Goddard hopes to have their research published in a peer-reviewed journal.
