Local Teen Named Boys And Girls Clubs State Youth Of The Year

A Springfield Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year recipient has won the organization’s State Youth of the Year Award.  Alissa Schilling will receive two scholarships:  $1,000 from Missouri Area Council and $2500 from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

She’ll now go on to contend for the regional Youth of the Year.  The winner of that contest will win a $20,000 college scholarship and will compete for National Youth of the Year.  The national title winner will receive a $50,000 scholarship.

Brandy Harris, CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield says Schilling “could have easily been a statistic in a textbook.  She worked really hard not to be.”

Schilling calls Boys and Girls Clubs “a life-saver.”

She plans to attend Missouri State University in the fall.
