Joplin Police Chief Announces Retirement

Joplin’s police chief is retiring effective January 3.  Matt Stewart will have served with the Joplin Police Department for 20 years, according to a press release from the Joplin Police Department.  He started working for the department on January 3, 2000.

During his tenure with the department, he served in numerous positions from patrol, SWAT, Training, Internal Affairs, and Investigations. He was promoted to the rank of police chief in March 2016.

Michele Skalicky has worked at KSMU since the station occupied the old white house at National and Grand. She enjoys working on both the announcing side and in news and has been the recipient of statewide and national awards for news reporting. She likes to tell stories that make a difference. Michele enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, camping and leisurely kayaking.
