Today is the first day of school in Springfield, and some road construction projects will likely cause traffic tie-ups. The City of Springfield is encouraging Kickapoo High School students, parents, teachers and staff to allow plenty of time to get to school this morning. Officials say to expect delays.
Jefferson is closed for around 30 days from Primrose to 100 feet north of the intersection. All Kickapoo High School driveways on Jefferson are open and accessible from the north only. Primrose is reduced to only two lanes with no center turn lane between South and Kimbrough. Motorists are encouraged to avoid making left turns in the work zone. Students and faculty are advised to access school parking lots on Primrose from the east or on Jefferson from the north.
The Primrose Street Widening Project began in April and is expected to be finished in November.
And southbound Highway 65 from Battlefield to Route 60 is closed until as late as August 20. Southbound 65 from Sunshine to Battlefield currently has one lane of traffic.
