Springfield has seen its second fire fatality of 2019. Firefighters from the Springfield Fire Department were called to a home in the 2900 block of W. Elm at around 7:30 Thursday morning. A man was pulled from the house, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. He’s been identified as 30-year-old Craig W. Mackie. Springfield fire fighters say there were no working smoke alarms in the home. An investigation is underway, but the fire department says initial indicators are that it was accidental.
