Volunteers Help Lower-Income Residents File Taxes for Free

With tax season upon us, there are several programs in the Ozarks that help low income residents file thier taxes.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, the "Tax-a-Palooza" event will run from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Springfield Dream Center at 829 W. Atlantic in Springfield.  There, volunteers from Community Partnership of the Ozarks, The Dream Center, Drury University, Missouri State University and Senior Age will work together to offer tax preparation help.

Those who can take part in the free programs are:

  • Anybody who earned less than $54,884 in 2018 OR who is older than 60
  • doesn’t own rental property
  • didn’t file for bankruptcy in 2018

Walk-in clinics are scheduled at Drury's Breech School of Business, located at 900 N. Benton Ave. Those clinics are:

  • Feb. 11  from 4-8 PM
  • Feb. 15 and 22 from 4-9 PM
  • Feb. 16 10AM-4PM

What to bring:   to participate, you'll need to bring a photo ID, income and child care statements, and a voided check for direct deposit of the tax refund.
