Proposals to annex fire protection districts into local ambulance districts will appear on area ballots Tuesday.
Citizens within in the Jasper County Fire Protection district will decide if the entity should be annexed into the Barton County Ambulance District. Margie Bowman is with the ambulance district.
“What this does is that it actually brings them into our district, because technically they’re not in our district, we’re just responding there.”
According to Bowman, the district has already been responding in this area “for over a year now” with an extra crew, so there would not be that much of a change in that sense. However, this would empower the Barton County Ambulance District to impose a sales tax of one half of one percent.
Bowman adds “in Jasper County, since we’ve already been responding there, this will just ensure we’re able to keep that extra crew on and keep providing quality care for everybody.”
A similar measure asks citizens serviced by both the Clever and Highlandville Fire Protection Districts whether to annex the two into the Christian County Ambulance District. Kasha Driskill works for the CCAD.
“Clever Fire District does not have a primary EMS provider; they are covered by EMS services out of Republic or Crane when those guys are not otherwise being utilized.”
Approval would equal a property tax increase of .1324 cents per $100 of assessed value.
Citizens throughout southwest Missouri will also be choosing Tuesday amongst candidates for city government and school board, as well as various propositions related to, among other things, school district construction projects.
