Timmons Temple Will be Moved

Jim Mayfield

Those working to save Timmons Temple got some good news at today's Springfield-Greene County Park Board meeting.  KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more.

The board voted unanimously to allow the historic church building on E. Webster to be moved to nearby Silver Springs Park and saved from the wrecking ball.

Lori Tack has been working with the group Save Timmons Temple.  She said she and other supporters were moved to tears as the vote was taken.

"This is just huge for us and our effort.  We're just thrilled," she said.

She said they couldn't have gotten to this point without the help of many people in the community.

"I think the one thing I've learned through this whole process is that we've got some wonderful people in Springfield from all different backgrounds that really care about each other and want to do the right thing, and I think that those people are represented, you know, with the donors and all the people working to make this happen," she said.

The group has raised the money needed to move the building to make way for an apartment complex development.  Tack says they're still raising money to renovate the structure.

Plans are to rent out the old church as a multipurpose event center.

Tack said they could begin the moving process in about two weeks.

Michele Skalicky has worked at KSMU since the station occupied the old white house at National and Grand. She enjoys working on both the announcing side and in news and has been the recipient of statewide and national awards for news reporting. She likes to tell stories that make a difference. Michele enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, camping and leisurely kayaking.
